Cézanne’s mountain.Sainte-Victoire Mountain is the symbol of Provence. Its Pic des mouches reaches a height of 3,317 ft.Despite a fire in 1989, Sainte-Victoire remains a very popular spot for walking and climbing. Various trails lead to the seventeenth-century priory and the Croix de Provence. From here, there’s a wonderful view over Provence’s mountains and Aix’s undulating plains.When 75% of the listed site went up in smoke in 1989, the decision was made to manage the mountain ridge more closely.The Grand Site Sainte-Victoire aims primarily to protect the mountain’s legacy.
